Map showing location of Cambridge BayAfter a hectic day of packing and taking care of last-minute details, we finally retired sometime after 1:00 am this morning, only to be up four hours later to catch our Canadian Airlines flight from Toronto to Cambridge Bay (indicated on map). After stops in Edmonton and Yellowknife, we arrived in Cambridge Bay at 7:00 pm. (Since this is a different time zone, that would be 9:00 pm "our" time.)

The weather here is magnificent - 16 degrees Celsius, sunny, with still air - and "person-eating" bugs everywhere! In spite of this balmy weather, we are informed that spring is actually about two weeks late, and recent weather has been cold and wet. There is still ice in the bay.

We are very fortunate to have our friend Norm Meek, whom we met here on our 1994 trip, offer to host us in his home tonight. We will be camped out on the floor - but enjoying the comraderie.

We expect to leave for King William Island at about noon tomorrow.
