Daily Log - July 27, 1997

It's about 7:00 pm K.W.I. time. We've been confined to barracks today. The weather has changed dramatically. Very strong winds have come up - they levelled my tent, except that Derek got up and tied it up without my realizing it. The temperature has plunged to 5 degrees or less. We ventured out a couple of times, once for a quick lunch - a bowl of soup which took forever to cook, and we went looking for some driftwood to see if we could start a little fire. It was terribly cold out there.

The wind is still keeping the ice out of the bay, which is good. We're hoping that it stays out until the plane picks us up tomorrow.

Not much of a report, I'm afraid. The weather did give us a good day to rest. I completed about eleven pages of my log book; some catching up and speculating on the things we've found. A profitable day, but we didn't get out hiking.

We were thinking today that if there is enought interest we could put on a slide show at a local (Southern Ontario - Mississauga or Kitchener-Waterloo area) hotel, with an admission just enough to cover the expenses. Do you think there might be enough interest for that?

We'll call as soon as we know for sure when we can get picked up, and again when we reach Cambridge Bay. In response to today's e-mail: yes, we will try to get an aerial photo of the rock patterns if possible.

Webmaster's note:
You can contact the team directly to express interest in attending a talk and slide show. We invite further comments.
